River Rocks

I’ve never been good at skipping rocks.  Although, I can’t say that I’ve really ever worked at it.  My man, on the other hand, could go pro.  I love watching him skip a rock and see it bounce, literally, like six times.  But you know what’s even better?  Watching my man teach my boy how to skip rocks.  It makes my heart skip right along with those rocks!

I come from a long line of river rock lovers.  Every time we walk down to the creek near my parents’ house, my mom has to find a heart shaped rock. It’s a requirement.

My mom gathered these for me and wrote verses from scripture on them. I love how simple and special these are.  Every time I look at them, I’m reminded of God’s goodness – in giving me such a special mom; for a boy learning to skip rocks with his dad; and for smooth river rocks, simple and beautiful.

If you would like to do this project, all you’ll need are some smooth rocks and a fine tip sharpie.  I love the idea of having a basket in the living room filled with rocks and a sharpie. Record special dates, memories, and milestones throughout the year.

Or you could make a thankfulness basket.  Anytime you think of something you’re thankful for, write it on a rock.  Get your whole family in the habit, and even friends that come over.  Soon enough, your basket will be overflowing with gratefulness.

Take some time when the weather is nice this summer, find a creek, skip some rocks, and gather some up to take home with you.

Have a great week everyone!
